Brandcade Level Design

Brandcade is a hub-like experience on Roblox, featuring small minigames and skin shops. However, it faced a problem: there weren’t enough activities to keep players engaged.

To solve this, the design team set out to make the experience more entertaining.

One of the proposed solutions was a speed-based game inspired by Sonic, but with jetpacks. For this project, I was responsible for the level design.

Roblox Tycoon

The tycoon revolves around the player earning as much money as possible to build an empire and become the wealthiest player on the server.

This project required a longer development process, as it is a game entirely focused on economy. Designing and balancing the economy involved an extensive process of iteration and trial and error, as well as careful decision making regarding the level layout.

Brick by Brick is a small jumping game where the player must land on the approaching block and aim to reach the highest height possible. If the player misses a block, they fall and lose.

Using spline tools, movement assistance, and trampolines, I created the level for Brandcade.

Taking inspiration from other speed-based games, I designed multiple fully interconnected paths that allow players to run infinitely while continuously increasing their speed.

The project is currently in the blockout phase, awaiting the 3D team to produce the final models for the level.

Within the tycoon, there are several tools that guide the player’s progression:

  • Processors

  • AFK Generator

  • Process Automator

  • Upgrades

  • Trophies

Processors:
These are the player’s main source of income. With these machines, the player collects raw materials and deposits them into the processor. The materials then go through four stages to become the final product, which can later be sold.

The tycoon is currently designed with a total of nine processing machines, with the possibility of expanding them indefinitely, just like the other machines in the game.

AFK Generator:
AFK Generators provide an additional source of income that players can unlock using the earnings from their processors. Each AFK Generator is paired with a processing machine, with a price range that aligns with its corresponding processor more expensive than the current processor but cheaper than the next one. This balance helps players progress toward purchasing their next machine with less effort.

These generators add money to the player’s account at regular intervals, with the frequency depending on the level of the associated machine.

As the final machine-related upgrade, the player can purchase a tenth AFK Generator, allowing them to accumulate even greater wealth.

Process Automator:
Within the processing machines, players have the option to automate each stage of production.

When purchasing an automator, an NPC will appear to independently handle the specific task it was bought for. To fully automate a single machine, the player must purchase five automations. Completing all automations unlocks the machine’s full potential and, in turn, maximizes the efficiency of the entire factory.

Brandcade Maestro de la pelota

Within Brandcade, we developed a game for the AGA brand, a Mexican soft drink company.

The game is a clicker where, at the end of their training, the player has to fight a boss in this case, a wolf.

The clicker is divided into three different training sessions, each corresponding to one of the three attack categories the player can use against the boss.

The three training sessions are based on sports: Basketball, Soccer, and Baseball. Each training unlocks different types of attacks for the player.

During the boss battle, the player must choose from these attacks depending on the boss’s current weakness, maximizing the damage dealt.

While attacking, the player must also dodge the boss’s abilities. At the end of the fight whether they win or lose the player returns to the clicker zone to continue improving their skills using the money earned as a reward from the battle.

Currently, there is only one boss available, but variants of this boss and entirely new bosses will be added over time.

Upgrades:
Upgrades are available at a station located next to the stairs. Using the money earned from their machines, players can improve various factory attributes to increase long term profits. The statistics that can be upgraded include:

  • AFK Generator upgrades

  • Processor storage upgrades

  • Production speed upgrades

  • Global profit upgrades

Trophies:

Trophies serve as the aesthetic element of upgrades. There will be one trophy for each processing machine, purely for decorative purposes. They showcase the player’s achievements and the success of their factory.

Micro-mechanics:
The micro-mechanics are a complementary section of Brandcade where brands can set up promotional stands featuring quick mini-games. The micro-mechanics shown here were designed by me and are close to being implemented within the already published place.

Brick by Brick
Backflip

Backflip is a skill based game where, similar to many other games, you must hit a target within a green bar to successfully perform a backflip. If you miss the target, your character will fail the backflip and you will lose your streak.

In Packaging, the player faces a conveyor belt where objects stop in front of them, and they must place each object into the box beside them. The speed gradually increases, so players must organize the items quickly to avoid losing.

In Cake Order, the player sees a cake in front of them and must pick up the correct ingredients to decorate it according to the given design. The speed gradually increases, along with the complexity of the cake decorations, challenging the player to keep up.
